Our Best Start in Life Community Champions are already making a real difference for local families. Since the pilot began in May, four local parent champions: Kirsty, Nigel, Noi and Shannon, have been recruited, trained and equipped to help families feel welcome, connected and confident in accessing support at the new Best Start in Life Family HUB, 80 Dominion Road, Twerton, BA2 1DF.
The Community Champions are becoming a vital bridge between families, the community and local services. They have met a wide range of organisations at the new Family Hub, built relationships with professionals and started promoting the groups and services through their community networks and social media. Keep a look out and you may see them out in the High Street or in your school playground.
Importantly, the Champions bring their own experiences and community knowledge to the role. Our male Champion, Nigel, is helping us strengthen engagement with dads and male carers, while all four Champions will help ensure that families’ voices, ideas and experiences shape the future development of the Hub.
This is just the beginning. With further training and stronger connections with local services, our Champions will continue to welcome families, build relationships, share information and help people access the support that is right for them.
