Young Advocates
Southside is developing our Young Advocate Programme with local schools. The response has been amazing and we are keen to support a growing group of young people to feel part of Southside, to help inform the work we do and explore better ways of connecting with young people. Through this initiative, we have had the pleasure of meeting with sixth form students from various schools in Bath. These insightful conversations provided us with fantastic ideas and fresh perspectives on how to engage young people and how the young people themselves would like to become involved.
Here are just a few ideas the young people shared:
- Tutoring sessions: Where older students can help younger people with academics and academic life. Different people have different methods of learning, and it is important to harness the skills of all people no matter how difficult it may be.
- Fundraising: To spread the word of Southside and to ensure services can always be provided and to give the community something to look forward to.
- We could use sporting activity to gain trust and bond, like games of rounders or football. I want to work with children helping all that I can.
- Girl, big sister, little sister to talk about growing up, specifics to girls like worries.
- I’m interested in helping bringing communities together to support each other and to create a safe space for people, especially disadvantaged children to learn and discover what their passionate about so I can be part of helping them reach their goals – educational support and groups – workshops – sharing in groups to encourage others.
We will meet regularly with young people to develop this programme further and are discussing the development of a training programme for Young Advocates.
If you are a school within Bath and North East Somerset and would like to find out more about how your students can get involved, please contact us on: 01225 331243 or enquiries@south-side.org.uk
Southside Ambassadors
Do you want to make a difference? If so, volunteering as an Ambassador for Southside could be for you!
We are looking for Southside Ambassadors, who are committed and passionate about the work we do to support individuals and families in our community. We are looking for individuals who help us increase our profile, raise awareness of our organisation and champion the work that we do in the community, on social and other types of media and through their contacts with individuals and organisations. By using your profile, experience and communications you will make a massive difference to Southside and, to the local community that we serve.
As an organisation that relies heavily on donations and fundraising, we simply couldn’t carry out any of our important work without the support of our donors. Our Ambassadors will enable us to reach a wide audience, encouraging more people to become Southside supporters.
To find out more you can email us at enquiries@south-side.org.uk or call 01225 331243 and Southside’s Chief Executive Penny McKissock will be delighted to get in touch with you to explore further the possibility of you becoming a Southside Ambassador and what training and support you might need in taking up this role.
“It was so helpful learning about different types of people; where they come from and their experiences was eye opening. Really useful information and tools to consider when working with families.”
