Handmade quilts and blankets for local children

2 June 2026

In March, Southside Family Project was delighted to receive a second generous donation of blankets from Project Linus UK.

These beautiful blankets were given to children attending the Southside ThinC group, a 12-week programme designed to support young people who may have experienced trauma or are facing emotional challenges such as anxiety, low confidence, or shyness. Each child received a blanket as a special leaving gift at the end of the programme.

The response was truly heartwarming. The children were thrilled with their blankets, proudly wrapping themselves up and rushing to show their parents at the final session. It was a touching moment that highlighted just how meaningful this gift was to them.

Workers Alice and Linda thoughtfully selected each blanket for the children in their groups. Remarkably, many of the children commented that their blanket was in their favourite colour, making the gift feel even more personal and special.

Parents were equally impressed, praising the exceptional quality of the blankets and the thoughtful “Made with Love” message attached to each one.

The donated blankets were also shared with parents attending our Family Thrive course, a programme designed to support parents and carers in understanding the Thrive Approach and how it can be applied in everyday family life. Thrive focuses on helping children build strong social and emotional wellbeing, enabling them to engage more positively with life and learning.

The impact of the blankets within families has been incredibly meaningful. Parents have shared heartfelt feedback about how their children are using them as sources of comfort and security:

“My son has used his to make a den – a safe space for him.”

“My son has also made a den to go to when he is feeling sad.”

“My son has slept better all week since having the blanket.”

“My son loves how soft the blanket is and takes it to bed each night to cuddle.”

“My son says the blanket is his safe space and he needs it when he is cross to feel better.”

Parents expressed deep appreciation for the care and effort that went into creating each blanket. Many commented on how unique and special they are, and believe this is why the children have formed such strong emotional connections to them.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone at Project Linus UK who contributed to creating these wonderful quilts and blankets. Your kindness has brought comfort, joy, and a lasting reminder of care to the children we support.
