A stylish, joyful and deeply community-spirited evening, kindly hosted free of charge by The Paragon School, was enjoyed by all at the second Southside and Mercy In Action (MiA) Fashion Show; a growing highlight of Bath’s social calendar!
Guests, including members of our Writhlington Hub Steering group came along to enjoy a delicious spread of homemade crostini alongside a beautifully curated showcase of vintage and contemporary fashion from Mercy in Action’s retail spaces, modelled by members of the Southside and MiA community ranging in age from eight to eighty-plus.
The event celebrated style, sustainability and community in equal measure, with runway outfits available to purchase to help raise funds for both organisations and the vital work they do across Bath and beyond.
“We’re delighted to be collaborating once again with Mercy in Action on this event,” said Penny McKissock at Southside. “The fashion show has become such a joyful and uplifting evening. It’s a wonderful way to raise awareness and support the work both organisations do; while bringing people together in a genuinely positive and empowering space.”
Allison Todd, Chief Executive of Mercy In Action, added: “It’s important for us to celebrate people looking and feeling fabulous in affordable, sustainable clothing. The evening is fun, inclusive and empowering. It reminds us that fashion doesn’t have to come at the expense of either the planet or the community. By choosing vintage and pre-loved pieces, people are directly supporting two organisations committed to care, dignity and social change.”
The collaboration reflects the shared values at the heart of both organisations. Southside has supported families and communities across BANES for more than 25 years through specialist family and domestic abuse support alongside creative local initiatives including Community hubs and Parent Advocacy. Mercy In Action, which supports vulnerable communities internationally, nationally and locally likewise places dignity, connection and hope at the centre of its work.
“As important as it is to support people through difficult times,” Lucy Fordham, Operations Director at Southside (and part-time caterer!) said, “it’s equally important to create moments of joy, celebration and togetherness for our community.”
