Bringing Christmas Cheer to our Community Hub Groups across Bath and North East Somerset

18 December 2025

Over the past week, Southside’s Community Hub Groups have been filled with festive cheer, as families came together to celebrate Christmas in Twerton, Foxhill, Writhlington and Keynsham.

For many families, Christmas can be a difficult time, especially when finances are stretched and pressures feel heightened. This year, thanks to the generosity of supporters and local organisations, we were able to provide celebrations and gifts in our groups that were thoughtful, inclusive and full of care.

In each Community Hub Group, we created space for families to connect and enjoy time together. There was festive music, crafts and creative activities, alongside plenty of laughter and conversation. For many children, the visit from Santa was the standout moment. One parent reflected, “That’s the first time my son has met Santa. To see his face light up like this has choked me.” Moments like these remind us how meaningful these experiences can be.

Children weren’t the only ones surprised on the day. Alongside gifts for each of the children from Santa, families also received gift bags for the parents and carers from Southside. One Dad said it was “so kind of you to be thinking of the parents as well,” while another parent laughed, “Are you kidding, we’re getting all this as well? How amazing, you really are something.”

For some, the gifts offered real, practical support. One parent shared, “I really need them this year. Thank you, you’re a godsend. Would you believe I was looking at this exact gift online this morning but couldn’t afford it.” Another parent, opening a hand-sewn blanket, told us, “It’s amazing. I’m going to make sure I keep this for myself.”

We are hugely grateful to everyone who made these celebrations possible. Special thanks go to staff from the Greene King pub chain for donating toys, Charity Resource for festive treats, Ann from Saltford Golf Club for biscuits and mince pies, Project Linus UK for the beautiful hand-made blankets, Curious Universe and the Twerton and Whiteway Community Network for craft kits and toys, and to everyone else who donated wonderful books and gifts. We also appreciate the ongoing support of Loraine Morgan-Brinkhurst from Radio Bath.

Above all, these Christmas parties were about community – making sure families felt welcomed, supported and thought of at a time that can otherwise feel overwhelming. As one parent simply put it, “What a kind thing to do for us. It means so much. I love this group, and you guys.”
